Face Control (portrait show at La Vie)

The portrait is a severed head. One time, my cousin Billy told me about this kid who buried a cat in the ground with just it’s head sticking out and ran over it with the lawn mower. Eeeuuu. Like, just the opposite of the ostrich with its head in the sand. Safe, the portrait of the ostrich is invisible, even.

Bronwyn and Thommy asked me to show my Pet Portraits at La Vie and here they be, yo. TROUBLE is my second newest pet portrait. TROUBLE is Leona Helmsey’s dog that inherited all the money while her grandchildren were left out in the cold. She’s wearing a Law Suit! BEAUREGARD is similar but regional. He’s Margaret Ritchie Battle Scaife’s dog, whatever. And the newest of new is homage to Robert Rauschenberg (also with “regional” reference). It’s an email to Bronwyn E. Lounghren that says: “THIS IS A PORTRAIT OF AMY SCHIFANO IF I SAY SO/PLEASE HANG IT ON THE WALL OF YOUR GALLERY AND TRY TO SELL IT TO A MUSEUM” Go google her and Iris Cert if you care to control these concepts and faces, yo.

Over the past ten years Paul LeRoy also developed an Illustration business under the nom de plume LeRoy “King of Art”. His illustrations have appeared in national and international magazines and newspapers such as The New Yorker, The New York Times, The Village Voice, Interview, Details, Seventeen, FHM and Playguy.

Mister LeRoy’s work is in the private collections of Sylvia Miles, Joan Rivers, Ingrid Sishy, Anna Sui, Steven Meisel, Bruce La Bruce, The Late Holly Soloman, Jonathan Adler and Simon Doonan, Cary Leibowitz/Candyass, and Cortney Love.

Paul LeRoy Gehres is an Aries. He Loves Disco and chicken. Little LeRoy was born in Greenville, Pennsylvania, at the beginning of the Space Age in 1961. He received a MFA from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 2006, a BFA from The Cooper Union in New York City in 1986 and an Associates degree majoring in Fashion Illustration from The Art Institute of Pittsburgh in 1982. He currently lives and works in the North Hills of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
